More than 40 km of virgin beaches, clean air, abundant wildlife, Holbox is still one of the few places left where life continues at a slow pace with no worries of tomorrow.
Situated within the protected fauna and flora area of Yum-Balam Park (yumbalam@conanp.gob.mx), in the heart of the Maya land, at the far north east of the Peninsula Yucatan, the island is a perfect spot for those who love nature and casual meetings with animals in their natural habitat or walking the streets made out of sand.
Fauna
Holbox is a bird’s paradise, thousands of flamingos, white pelicans, cranes, osprey, frigates, spoonbills etc. visit the island every year. The natural sanctuary is made up of 150 species of birds, as well as an abundant variety of fish. With a bit of luck at the right time of the year it is not unusual to observe dolphins, turtles, crocodiles and whale sharks.
Flora
While you explore the island, you will see many orchids, cactus, palm trees, sea grapes….and much more!
